UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Board of Trustees heard a report today (May 6) from Executive Vice President and Provost Nicholas Jones highlighting the significant ways in which Penn State and its graduates continue to impact the world.
With the trustees meeting hours before the beginning of Penn State’s three-day spring commencement ceremonies, Jones used the meeting’s timing to celebrate the University’s thousands of new graduates and reflect on the promise that is a Penn State education.
“Penn State is poised to unleash on the world more than 13,500 graduates — people with a depth, breadth and diversity of talent and passion who will leave indelible marks on our world,” said Jones. “Graduates of this University routinely excel in every field and discipline, making a difference around the United States and the world, and representing Penn State with great strength and pride.”
Jones also recognized the work done by the University’s faculty and staff, particularly this year amid the uncertainty of the budget stalemate in Harrisburg, and acknowledged the powerful role they play in Penn State fulfilling its land-grant mission in Pennsylvania and beyond.
“They revealed yet again how they are the heart of this institution, enabling Penn State to continue to reach new heights as one of the world’s premier research universities,” Jones said. “In a period of uncertainty and concern, we experienced Penn State at its best.”
