On Tuesday, Feb. 25, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions won their second consecutive Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Championship when they defeated Penn State Brandywine, 100-74, under the leadership of Head Coach Tim Moore.
Beaver was led by sophomore guard Morgan Kurtz, who scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman guard Sydnee Abernathy scored 19 points off the bench for the PSUAC champions, while sophomore forward Cassandra Flowers recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
The Beaver women’s basketball team is the first to repeat as PSUAC Champions since the 2010 season when they capped off their third consecutive PSUAC title.
"Even winning it back-to-back, we never took it for granted; it was a great year," Beaver Athletic Director Andy Kirschner said. "We won as the No. 3 seed last year, too. I'm very proud of our players for never giving up and constantly battling through."
The Beaver Lady Lions ended their regular season with a 15-3 record in the PSUAC and 18-10 overall. As the PSUAC champion, Beaver received an automatic bid for this week’s USCAA National Championship hosted by Penn State Fayette. On Thursday, March 6, No. 5 seed Beaver will take on No. 4 seed Berkeley College at 5:30 p.m. in Fayette’s Community Center.
