UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — AAUW State College will hold its 63rd annual Used Book Sale, Saturday thru Tuesday, May 17-20, in the Penn State Snider Agricultural Arena, 800 E. Park Avenue, across from Beaver Stadium on Penn State’s University Park campus. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20.
More than 150,000 books, games, puzzles, CDs and DVDs will be available for purchase, making this one of the largest used book sales in the country. The books are sorted into 30 different categories, including arts, biography, children, collectors, fiction, history, hobbies, humor and pop culture, literature, mystery, science and engineering, science fiction, sports, travel and much more. Featured books will be offered in the Special Collections room adjacent to the check-out. A list of books for sale in that room may be found under “Special Collections” on the Used Book Sale page of the AAUW State College website.
While many shoppers tend to come first thing Saturday morning, there will be a wide selection of books all four days, so attendees should plan visits accordingly. Penn State safety regulations limit the total number of people in the arena at any one time to 450 people. This regulation helps protect shopper safety and increase shopper enjoyment. Building perimeters and aisles may not be used by customers for temporary storage. With 50 volunteers on hand to run the sale, 400 shoppers will be permitted in the building at one time. This sometimes leads to a wait for Saturday morning shoppers who are not among the first 400 people.
Monday, May 19, will be Half-Price Day, and Bag Day will be held on Tuesday, May 20, when a bag of books may be purchased for $10. Shoppers are asked to bring their own bags to fill. Major credit cards, cash and checks are accepted. Parking is free and there is no admission fee.
May 2026 sale donations
AAUW State College will begin accepting book donations for their May 2026 sale starting Tuesday, July 8 at 2197 High Tech Road, State College (across from the State College Regional Airport). Donation guidelines are available on the website.
