UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — This fall, Penn State has again joined forces with Abbott and the Big Ten Conference in the second annual “We Give Blood” drive competition to help tackle one of the nations' most urgent health challenges. The competition puts rivalry and school spirit to the test among all 18 Big Ten Conference universities in a race to see which school can donate the most blood through Dec. 5. The winning institution will be announced at the Big Ten Football Championship Game on Dec. 6 and will receive $1 million from Abbott to advance student or community health.
From Oct. 25-31, Penn State will go head-to-head against Ohio State in a “weekly one-up" challenge, a mini competition between two rivals within the larger season-long drive. The institution that records the most donations by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 31 will be announced as the “weekly one-up" winner during the Penn State football game at Ohio State on Nov. 1.
Penn State students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans across the country are encouraged to participate by donating blood and logging their donation to count toward the University’s total. Donors can participate at blood drives or blood centers across the U.S. or at these upcoming events on the University Park campus:
- Oct. 22- HUB, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Oct. 23 - Blue Band Building, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Oct. 27 - Agricultural Sciences, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Oct. 29 - Pasquerilla Spiritual Center, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Oct. 30 - Student Health Center, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Nov. 5 - HUB, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Nov. 11 - Waring Commons, 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Nov. 12 - HUB, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Nov. 13 - Smeal Business Building, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Dec. 2 - Hintz Family Alumni Center, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Dec. 2 - Physical Plant Building, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Dec. 4 - HUB, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Make your donation count
To credit donations to Penn State, blood donors must submit a record of their donation at BigTen.Org/Abbott or by texting “DONATE” to ABBOTT (222688).
Donations will be tracked on a live leaderboard throughout the campaign.
