UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Local government officials honored the service and sacrifice of military service members, veterans and their families with proclamations announced in coordination with Penn State’s 14th annual Military Appreciation Week.

On Oct. 27, State College Borough officials recognized Military Appreciation Week in the borough from Nov. 7 through Nov. 14. Mayor Ezra Nanes expressed support for Military Appreciation Week in the proclamation.

“The sacrifices made by all military service members and their loved ones are to be valued,” Nanes said. “This year’s Military Appreciation theme celebrates Medal of Honor recipients, the United States' highest military decoration, awarded for valor above and beyond the call of duty. We dedicate this commemoration week for Military Appreciation as a symbol of unity to recognize, honor and support the commitment and sacrifice of current, former and fallen members of all the branches of U.S. Armed Forces.”

Additionally, Centre County Commissioners recognized November as Military Appreciation Month at the public meeting on Oct. 28 and encouraged citizens to recognize those who have served, or are currently serving, and thank them for their tremendous contributions.

The 14th annual Penn State Military Appreciation Week officially kicks off on Nov. 7 with the unveiling of military banners in downtown State College. Other events will be held throughout the week, including the Military Appreciation Tailgate and home football game against Indiana University on Nov. 8.
