Mechanical engineering alumnus Naren Gursahaney named Alumni Fellow

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Naren Gursahaney, a 1983 mechanical engineering alumnus, was one of 19 Penn State graduates honored as an Alumni Fellow in a ceremony held Oct. 21 at Penn State's University Park campus.

Bestowed by the Penn State Alumni Association, the lifelong title of Alumni Fellow recognizes individuals for their outstanding professional accomplishments. Since the award was established in 1973, more than 750 alumni — out of more than 645,000 living alumni — have been honored as Alumni Fellows.

Gursahaney is president, chief executive officer and a director of The ADT Corporation, leading a workforce of nearly 17,500 employees. ADT is a leading provider of home and small business electronic security, automation and alarm monitoring services in North America.

Prior to his appointment at ADT, Gursahaney held numerous leadership roles within Tyco International. He served as president of Tyco Engineered Products and Services, president of Tyco Flow Control, and senior vice president of Operational Excellence.

Before his involvement with Tyco, Gursahaney served four years with global consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton followed by 10 years in leadership roles within General Electric (GE), including president, and previously, vice president of service, of GE Medical Systems Asia.

He began his career as an engineer with Westinghouse Electric in the U.S. and Israel.

Gursahaney serves on NextEra Energy Inc.'s board of directors and holds a master of business administration from the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.

He was the College of Engineering's commencement speaker in 2013, and he received the college's 2009 Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award for his professional accomplishments.

Gursahaney is a member of the College of Engineering's Industrial and Professional Advisory Council and is a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association.
