UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State World Campus invites the Penn State community to share a message of support to members of the military through the United Service Organizations (USO).
During National Military Month in May, Penn State faculty, staff, students and alumni can share messages of support through the World Campus on the USO’s website. The messages will be shared with service members at USO locations around the world.
Penn State World Campus has partnered with the USO to help members of the armed forces take the next step toward their educational goals as they transition out of the military. Penn State World Campus has been offering a Penn State education online more for than 25 years and has a comprehensive selection of more than 200 degrees and certificates.
"We are proud to be a partner of the USO," said Josh Fickes, assistant director of military marketing strategy for Penn State World Campus, and an Air Force veteran. "As a veteran, I have been to USO centers around the world, and the organization is very important to our service members. I encourage all Penn Staters to help us support the USO mission. Any show of support is much appreciated by our troops."
The USO supports military service members by offering educational and career resources to assist with the transition from military to civilian life. Many service members want to pursue higher education.
As service members begin transitioning from the military to civilian life, they begin exploring options, such as going back to school to finish their bachelor’s degree or pursuing a master’s degree.
Through the partnership with the USO, Penn State World Campus seeks to show how service members and veterans can get a Penn State degree online while supporting the organization’s mission.
Over the first year of the partnership, World Campus has been educating the USO community on what it’s like for active-duty members and veterans to earn a degree online. World Campus staff have participated in webinars with the USO, and staff also volunteered in February at the USO Center in Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.
