Five reasons to attend We Are Weekend

Concert and ice cream social, commemorative photos, and Dueling Lions piano bar highlight events planned for June 17-18 at University Park

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — There are lots of reasons to sign up for We Are Weekend, which will be hosted by the Penn State Alumni Association on June 17-18 at University Park. Here are five that stand out:

Concert and ice cream social (Noon to 3:30 p.m., June 18, Hintz Family Alumni Center)

Enjoy an afternoon with alumni and friends while grabbing some Berkey Creamery ice cream. Revel in an outdoor concert series with some State College-favorite artists for all ages. While visiting, tour the Alumni Center and the Alumni Gardens, and take in the beauty and tranquility.

Commemorative photos (9 a.m. to noon, June 18, Nittany Lion Shrine; 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., June 18, Hintz Family Alumni Center)

Gather your family and friends and stop by the Nittany Lion Shrine in the morning and at the Hintz Family Alumni Center in the afternoon to have your complimentary photo taken by a professional photographer. Learn about Invent Penn State (10 to 11 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m., June 17, Penn State Innovation Hub)

First, see how Invent Penn State is using “serious play” sessions to teach key entrepreneurial and innovation skills during a collaborative design/build challenge  from 10 to 11 a.m. Right after, take a tour of Penn State's new 84,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art innovation building to learn about the vision behind Invent Penn State and all of the different spaces, programs and events happening in the new building. Please note: this tour involves extensive walking. Please dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes.

Pioneer Induction Dinner and Class Dinner (5:30 to 9:00 p.m., June 17 and 18, The Penn Stater Hotel)

Pioneer Induction Dinner — Alumni of all years are invited to a special celebration as graduates from the classes of 1970, 1971 and 1972 will be inducted into the ranks of Penn State Pioneers. Special guest Penn State President-elect Neeli Bendapudi will be on hand to celebrate the occasion.

Class Reunion Dinner — Attend a reception and delicious banquet dinner arranged by the Class of 1970, 1971 and 1972 Reunion Planning Committees. Special guest class speakers are: Franco Harris, Paul Kirvan, Ryan McCombie and Sue Paterno.

Dueling Lions Piano Bar (9 to 11 p.m., June 18, The Penn Stater Hotel)

Get the party started! Request your favorite song and get your dancing shoes ready for this high-energy live music experience from Howl at the Moon. Cash bar available. Complimentary event parking available at The Penn Stater Hotel.
