New bus service available to and from New York City

University Park, Pa. -- Penn State Transportation, along with Fullington Tours, is offering a weekend bus service to the Big Apple. The Big Apple Express service will be available every weekend starting on Friday, Oct. 5, departing State College at 2:30 p.m. and taking passengers right into midtown New York City.

The bus leaves State College at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and arrives at 7:15 p.m. at New York's Port Authority Bus Terminal, 625 8th Ave. between 40th and 42nd streets, just in time for a fancy New York City dinner or Broadway show. Tickets for the convenient trip are $40 one way and $80 round trip. Departure and arrival times may vary due to weather or traffic conditions.

For people in New York who want to spend a weekend in Happy Valley, the express returns to State College at 8 p.m. Fridays from Port Authority Bus Terminal. This will be helpful to those who would like to visit Penn State and the surrounding community for the weekend. On Sunday, buses will leave State College at 11 a.m. and arrive in the city around 3:45 p.m., departing at 5 p.m. for the return to State College, with an estimated arrival time of 9:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the Bus Depot at 152 North Atherton Street in State College or by calling (814) 238-1100 or (814) 238-7971. Online ticket purchases are not yet available.

People with disabilities are asked to call (800) 942-8287 to coordinate accessibility needs up to 48 hours in advance. This new express service will run for a trial period during the fall and spring semesters. Success of the service will determine whether the express will continue next year.
