UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On July 5-6, the Penn State Office of Physical Plant (OPP) will conduct the second part of its annual elm tree spraying program at University Park. Ground-based spraying will begin Tuesday night (July 5) at approximately 10 p.m. and aerial application by helicopter will take place beginning at first light on the morning of July 6 and should be completed by approximately 6 a.m. Signage will be posted in the affected areas accompanied by ground personnel.

OPP sprays the elm trees twice annually to slow the spread of the Dutch elm disease and elm yellows, and to protect the iconic elms at University Park campus. These applications are timed to best control these diseases and benefit the elms while being as minimally invasive as possible to the campus community and the trees’ diverse ecosystem.
