Wellness series offered to service members, community in November 

As part of the 10th annual Military Appreciation Week, Wellness in Motion is offering a four-part yoga series

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – As events for Military Appreciation Week at Penn State kick off on Thursday, Nov. 11, service members and local community members are reminded of the four-part yoga series offered by Wellness in Motion and Warrior Strong Inc. 

The series is free and open to the public — including veterans and service members — and Penn State students, faculty and staff. Registration is required for each session. 

Nov. 12 — Part one: Mindful resilience yoga class, yoga for trauma induced relief (virtual)  

Yoga instructors from Wellness in Motion will present The Veterans Yoga Project. The session is open to anyone who would like to learn more about the Veterans Yoga Project, Mindful Resilience, or practice yoga in a safe and comfortable environment. The first event will be held virtually on Friday, Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m. Registration for this event is available online via Wellness in Motion.  

Nov. 15 — Part two: Virtual yoga (virtual) 

Warrior Strong Inc. will host a virtual yoga session for veterans to support energy and physiological processes. Join instructor Chris Smith, an Army combat veteran, for the session. Part two will be held on Monday, Nov. 15 at 6:00 p.m. Register for this event online

Nov. 17 — Part three: Breathwork class (virtual) 

Warrior Strong Inc. will host a virtual breathwork session for veterans to support energy and physiological processes. Join instructor Chris Smith, an Army combat veteran, for the session. Part three will be held at 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Register for this event online

Nov. 18 — Part four: Yoga for beginners (in-studio or virtual) 

Mandy Glitzer of Wellness in Motion will lead participants through a beginner yoga class. No yoga experience is necessary, but participants should be able to get up and down from the floor with ease. The fourth part of the series will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Wellness in Motion studio located on 2541 E. College Ave., Suite B in State College. Registration is required for both the in-studio class and online class.  

Penn State’s 10th annual Military Appreciation honors the Pennsylvania National Guard. The celebrations, which include Veterans Day activities on Nov. 11, will culminate in the annual Military Appreciation Tailgate and Football Game at Beaver Stadium on Nov. 20.
