UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Summer hours at Penn State University Libraries’ locations University-wide begin Sunday, May 10, and continue through Sunday, Aug. 23. Hours vary across University Park and Commonwealth Campus Libraries’ locations and are listed for the current week and by month on the University Libraries’ Hours and Locations webpage.
On the University Park campus, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will open its doors weekdays at 7:45 a.m., closing at 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5 p.m. on Fridays. Both libraries will be open 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays and closed on Saturdays.
University Park branch libraries have varied summer hours. The Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library, Engineering Library, and Physical and Mathematical Sciences Library will be open noon to 5 p.m. weekdays and closed on weekends. The Fletcher M. Byrom Earth and Mineral Sciences Library will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, closed weekends.
All locations will be closed for federal holidays on Monday, May 25, Memorial Day; Friday, June 19, Juneteenth; and Friday, July 3, for the University’s observance of Independence Day. University Park libraries also will close on Sunday, May 24, before Memorial Day, consistent with past practices.
Two additional closures and one extended-hours occasion will occur prior to the fall semester’s start. University Park libraries will close at noon on Wednesday, July 22, and remain closed until noon on Thursday, July 23, to enable all University Libraries employees to participate in scheduled annual professional development events. One exception is the Earth and Mineral Sciences Library, which will hold regular 9 a.m.–3 p.m. hours July 23. In addition, Pattee Library and Paterno Library will close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, and will stay open until 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21.
Commonwealth Campus Libraries’ monthly hours also are available online via each location’s landing page under the Library Hours link.
Throughout the summer the Ask a Librarian service will be available to provide help by live chat and email.
Even when the University Libraries’ doors are closed, a multitude of born-digital and digitized resources are available for library users at libraries.psu.edu. While some online content is limited to Penn State students, faculty and staff because of licensing requirements, Pennsylvania residents and Penn State Alumni Association members have borrowing privileges for items in the Libraries’ catalog at all locations University-wide. In addition, Pennsylvania residents have on-site access to digitized content on University Libraries designated community workstations following the creation of a Penn State Account.
